I specialize in practical ethics and political philosophy, focusing on the problems of inequality in work, technology, and sustainability. I am currently writing on a democratic right to work, ethics of automation, and consumption and climate change. I also have research interests in Hegel and German Idealism, Frankfurt School Critical Theory, Foucault, and LGBTQ philosophy.
I teach normative and applied ethics in the College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology at California State University, Los Angeles. I also teach courses in ethics and economics, engineering ethics, ethics of technology, social and political philosophy, gender and race, and 19th century philosophy. I previously taught at Occidental College and University of California, San Diego.
Born and raised in Montana, I attended school in Chicago, earning my B.A. in political science, philosophy, and literature from North Central College, and my M.A. in philosophy from Loyola University of Chicago. I received my Ph.D. in philosophy from University of California, San Diego. I live in LA with my partner and our two Bernese Mountain Dogs.
